The decree that regulates the definitive import of used vehicles comes into force

This Tuesday, November 5, the decree that regulates the definitive importof used vehicles, which includes commercial, passenger and cargo units,came into force after its publication by the Government of Mexico in theOfficial Gazette of the Federation (DOF).
After the regulation ended on September 30, the Ministry of Economy (SE)published in the evening version of the DOF of November 4, the decreethat defines the rules for the entry into the country of used vehicles.
With the publication of this decree, the Mexican Government specifies therules in the market for importers, the authorities involved in the processand the consumer market.
“It is considered urgent and necessary to issue this decree, in order to have aregulatory framework that provides certainty and legal security to importers ofused motor vehicles," said the Government of Mexico.
In the decree, the authority explained the convenience of resuming themeasures that regulate the definitive importation of used vehicles, whilecontinuing with the implementation of strategies that improve the wellbeing of the population, security and protect family assets.
After the publication of the draft of this regulation for the import of usedvehicles, in Conamer, the Mexican Association of Automotive Distributors(AMDA) urged the Ministry of Commerce to give the green light to itspublication.
"The Decree regulating the definitive importation of used vehicles isundoubtedly sensitive to the economic, environmental and fiscal probleminvolved in the importation of used vehicles, being able to provide legalcertainty to importers or owners of this merchandise; a situation for whichwe express not only agreement with its content but also support its veryexistence," he said .
The AMDA reiterated its call for the Government of Mexico to finalize theregularization of used vehicles of foreign origin, which it has called'automotive smuggling', extended by the previous government untilSeptember 30, 2026.
The decree that regulates the definitive import of used vehicles will be inforce for one year, from its entry into force, one of its transitoryprovisions specifies .
