Putin orders cessation of attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure after talks with Trump
Release time:2025-03-21
It was recently revealed that Vladimir Putin ordered the suspension of attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure following a conversation with Trump
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday ordered the suspension of attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure for the next 30 days, the Kremlin said. The decision was made after a telephone conversation with his US counterpart, Donald Trump, in which both leaders discussed possible diplomatic solutions to the conflict.
During the talk, Putin made it clear that the cessation of foreign military aid to Ukraine is a key condition for reaching a peaceful settlement. According to the Kremlin statement, Moscow considers that the only way to avoid an escalation of the conflict is to completely stop the supply of weapons and intelligence to Kiev.
In addition, it should be noted that the Kremlin stressed that Putin "positively" valued Washington's proposal to suspend attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure, although he expressed significant doubts about the effectiveness of the ceasefire. Among his concerns he mentioned:
- The difficulty of verifying compliance with the truce along more than 2,000 kilometers of front.
- The need for Ukraine to suspend the forced mobilization of soldiers.
- The risk that the Ukrainian army will use the pause to rearm.
Putin also alerted Trump about the lack of guarantees from Kiev to comply with the agreements reached, recalling that in the past the Ukrainian authorities have not respected similar commitments. The call between the two leaders began at 10:00 a.m. Washington time (14:00 GMT) and, according to national media, lasted for more than 90 minutes.
During the conversation, Trump and Putin also discussed other issues of international interest. According to the White House, both leaders discussed the situation in the Middle East as an area of possible cooperation to prevent future conflicts. In addition, they discussed the proliferation of strategic weapons and agreed that Iran should never be in a position to threaten Israel's existence. This dialogue represents a new attempt at rapprochement between Russia and the United States in the midst of the war in Ukraine, although strategic differences between the two countries continue to set the course of the conflict.
